Thomas Bailey Aldrich letter to William Winter [manuscript], 1880 October 15.

Aldrich summarizes what he knows about their mutual friend Fitz-James O'Brien, a science fiction writer who died in the Civil War, in particular his appointment as a staff officer to Frederick W. Lander a few weeks before he died. A note on the last page signed "W.W." states that Winter used part of the letter in his book "Old friends."
